Sweet Things 4 Life
Sharing our journey toward a more natural, simple, healthful lifestyle.
After watching the Republican Prime Time debate, I noticed there was a lot of time spent discussing Planned Parenthood and abortion. Now, I know this might not seem like this has anything to do with veganism, but I beg to differ… just stay with me.
All of these men talk about being Pro-Life and the need to defund Planned Parenthood because abortion goes against the fetus’ rights as living beings. Let’s get one thing straight… I don’t know a single person that is Pro-Abortion.
No one thinks killing fetuses is a good thing. I would argue that Planned Parenthood is one of the biggest advocates against abortion. Look at everything Planned Parenthood does to PREVENT unwanted pregnancies. Only 3% of Planned Parenthood’s services are abortions, according to the 2013-2014 numbers and abortions are not performed at every Planned Parenthood clinic. Compare that to the 34% of services that go toward contraception.
Now that we’ve established Planned Parenthood is not Pro-Abortion, let’s discuss the fetus’ rights. I believe that every child, fetus or otherwise, deserves the right to life. But what kind of life have our politicians promised this fetus? This fetus will probably grow up in a home where nightly dinners largely consist of milk, meat and cheese. All of which contribute to the two leading causes of death in our country: heart disease and cancer. Not to mention the role they play in causing Type II diabetes.
When that fetus is old enough to attend public school they’ll be served school lunches where pizza and fries are considered vegetables because they contain tomatoes and potatoes. Oh and don’t forget the cute little carton of milk alongside those wholesome meals.
So I guess my question is, how can these politicians argue so passionately about the fetus’ rights but then turn around and support and implement legislature that will eventually kill that child, or at the very least make them fat and sick? Chances are that that child will eventually develop heart disease, cancer or Type II diabetes and the real kicker is that these are almost always preventable by eating a whole foods plant-based diet.
Can someone tell me why our politicians aren’t as concerned about the fetus after it’s no longer a fetus? Why are our politicians supporting industries that will make that fetus fat, sick and will probably kill it?
How is it that politicians will fight so vigorously for a mother to bring an unwanted child into this world, but not for the health of that child once it’s born? Even if a loving family adopts that child, those parents can feed him/her meat, cheese, eggs, dairy and processed junk that will probably lead to his/her death and no one does a damn thing.
Instead of arguing about abortion, how about we dismantle the industries that contribute to the diseases that kill far more people (and animals) each year than abortion.
